Teens: Take charge of your health workshops!
Growing up I never had to think about eating healthy. We ate home cooked meals most days that were balanced with all the nutrients we needed. The foods we grew up eating have changed dramatically. Today, everyone needs to “learn how to eat healthy”. There is so much conflicting information about what’s healthy and not, no wonder we get confused. An example…. The Big Food companies want us to believe we’re eating healthy by putting “Made with Whole Grains” on a box of sugar laced cereal. The Soda companies want us to believe their diet version is healthy, when they are actually loaded with artificial ingredients our bodies aren’t made to digest. These two examples are just the tip of the iceberg. No wonder we are becoming the most overweight population in the world!
I’m excited about what I’m doing. Last week I had the pleasure of hosting two Health workshops for College girls! I was a little nervous as to how my workshop would be perceived by these girls. Fortunately, I have had overwhelming positive feedback from the girls and their parents. I think it’s amazing these girls are interested in learning about creating healthy lifestyles at such a young age. If we learn how to fuel our bodies at a young age, we will be stronger, healthier, happier, and live longer, fuller lives!
At the request of many of moms of high school and even middles school girls, I’m creating more workshops tailored to these ages. We will talk about:
- eating real food to give our bodies and minds energy
- choosing foods and drinks that are healthier
- how sugar affects our bodies and our minds
- what processed “fake foods” do to our bodies
- reading labels to avoid dangerous ingredients
- making easy snacks and lunches for school and home
